Summer (November to March) is the best time of year to carry out a trip if you are considering going to Patagonia, but you are not, then the whole year sensational walks can be taken.

Both countries have an organized system of national parks and national monuments that both to protect and manage large areas of outstanding natural beauty. some of these parks, such as the Torres del Paine (Chile) and Los Glaciares (in Argentina) are well known, and in the high season, but most are little known and rarely visited and exceptionally beautiful. A good example of this is morning with dark clouds over Parque Nacional Volcan Isluga, close to the Bolivian border in the North of Chile.

This Park, along with other parks in the region, relates to the areas of the Altiplano of great natural beauty and those undertaking will be rewarded with unspoilt views of the spectacular scenery and observations of the many animals which are rare elsewhere, such as: ñandú, guanaco, vizcacha, alpaca, llamas, Vicuñas and to a few, and far from the hustle and bustle. In addition to the landscape and the flora and fauna are this park human interests. the Aymaran Gods to enlighten people and their ancestors have lived at least 6000 years here and the remote villages in the Park are today still filled with Aymaran Gods to enlighten communities, which many pre-Columbian traditions. The economy of the villages is based around the animal husbandry, agriculture and textiles (not in the near future tourism). Bare in mind that if you plan to walk in the park or on the Altiplano, you need to take the time to acclimatize, unless you are coming from this area, or on the Nepalese-4000m high above sea level the Park will literally take your breath away, as one of the most memorable times during a hiking holiday to always remember.

In the many parks are also spectacular opportunities for climbing, and you don't have to be an experienced mountain climber to some of the most amazing expeditions. There are many non-technical climbing that that is a good level of fitness and an adventurous spirit-an example of such a climb to the top of the active volcano Villarica, in the South of Chile is. it is a 5 hour climb on the 3000 m high point for which the use of crampons and an ice axe. From the crater of the volcano the views of the Lake District are wonderful: green forests, lakes, other snow-covered volcanoes in the North and the South. But what really unforgettable is the view in the crater-a sparkling sea of molten rock at 1000 degrees Celsius. It is not anywhere near a volcanic crater filled with lava in Europe or North America shall be granted-this is still not Coddling molly South America!

Backup is in the North of Chile, the huge Ojos del Salado volcano.Just below 7000m high is the largest volcano in the world and the second highest mountain outside of the Himalayas. it is a non-technical climbing, but requires a very high level of fitness. it is curious that the most people have never heard of this volcano that Kilimanjaro dwarfs, but the anonymity is a blessing, because there is no tourist route of Ojos del Salado.

The national parks in Chile and Argentina has so much to offer and it is remarkable that so many of them are well out of the beaten track-perfect for lovers of a wilderness adventure hiking holiday.
